The access to safe drinking water is an undeniable human right. According to the current European legislation, the use of UV for disinfection of potable water is an important part of the treatment. Unlike chlorine, UV doesn’t enhance harmful disinfection by-products, it doesn’t affect the taste or odor of the water. Additionally, it ensures pathogen free water since it is able to deactivate chlorine-reluctant pathogens such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Ozonation is also widely applied in potable water treatment due to the numerous benefits against the traditional disinfection alternatives.
