Using Ozone in aquariums & amusement parks

Controlled water quality for aquatic environments

Public aquariums and water-based amusement facilities operate complex recirculating water systems where water quality must be carefully controlled at all times. High visitor numbers, biological activity, and continuous reuse of large water volumes create demanding operational conditions.

Advanced oxidation in recirculating systems

Ozone is widely applied in advanced recirculating aquatic systems as a controlled oxidation step. Its primary function is to reduce dissolved organic compounds, improve water clarity, and support microbiological control without the need for continuous water replacement.

Water clarity and organic load reduction

In aquarium environments, ozonation contributes to:

  • Reduction of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and yellowing compounds
  • Improved optical clarity and light penetration in exhibit tanks
  • Oxidation of organic waste from feed and biological activity
  • Support of stable water quality parameters in closed loop systems

Engineered for safe operation

Operational control and system safety

In amusement parks and high-load recreational systems, ozone enhances water transparency and reduces the accumulation of organic by-products that can impact both water and air quality in indoor environments.
Ozone does not remain in the water as a long-term residual. For this reason, it is applied in carefully controlled contact systems and is typically followed by degassing and downstream treatment to ensure safe and stable operation within defined water quality parameters.
International best practice for aquatic life support systems and high-load recirculation facilities recognizes ozonation as an established and documented treatment technology when properly designed, monitored, and integrated into the overall system design.

With Gaia, Water ApS provides robust ozone solutions designed for controlled aquatic environments, supporting operational stability, visual water quality, and long-term performance in demanding recirculation applications.
